Physiotherapy as a profession has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few decades. It has spread its wings in all branches of medical sciences, be it orthopaedics, neurology, cardiology, pulmonary conditions, intensive care units, obesity, sports medicine, surgery, medicine, burns, cancer, community health.
Physiotherapy is concerned with identifying and maximizing quality of life and movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention, and rehabilitation. This encompasses physical, psychological, emotional, and social well being. Physiotherapy involves the interaction between the therapist, patients, other health professionals, families, caregivers, and communities in a process where movement potential is assessed and goals are agreed upon, using knowledge and skills unique to physical therapists.
